Marienne Kreitlow — Musicals in Motion
Three video highlights from NMTE member Marienne Kreitlow’s musicals — montages and sizzle reels showcasing her range as a composer, lyricist, and book writer.
Trouble in Grimmland
Montage from Trouble in Grimmland (formerly The Brothers Grimm: A Musical Adventure). “Once Upon A Time” is thrown upside down, in desperate need of a happy ending. Performed by GREAT Theatre, St. Cloud, MN. Music, lyrics, and orchestration by Marienne Kreitlow.
Yours, Thrognog
Montage from a partially-staged production, Theatre & Dance Dept. at WIU. “Signing off with his quirky ‘Yours, Thrognog,’ Uncle Burt’s letters to his beloved Doris during World War II chronicle an intimate glimpse into a budding relationship in a tumultuous time.” Interfaced with present time, the character of elderly Doris conveys how dementia allows reality to morph into a personal healing mythology. We also meet a granddaughter desperately seeking direction and forgiveness. Boundaries of space and time grow increasingly mutable. Lake Superior cradles the story beginning to end. Book by Kitty Karn & Marienne Kreitlow, music & lyrics by Marienne.
Tesla’s Mistress
Highlights from Tesla’s Mistress, including an interview with creator Marienne Kreitlow. Set in America during an era of endless innovation when men competed for patent rights, money, power, and fame, Tesla lost at playing that game. Tesla’s Mistress exposes his charming charisma, obsessive genius, naive confidence, and fatal flaws — seen through the eyes of the women who loved him. Reading hosted by NMTE. Lyrics, music, and script by Marienne Kreitlow, orchestration by Eric Heltemes.
